"If the secret belongs to the world you are not stealing it you are freeing it."

—THE CHEF

He was lost in a far world — a world that had been forgotten — and this I realized within a few nights of listening to his lectures. Still, I let him seduce me into that world. Cabral, Columbus, Cook, Magellan, all of a sudden my tiny world turned upside down. From the bottom of the Earth to the Alaskan seaways, Douglas taught me all about the world's discoveries. I was becoming familiar with the great explorers, their ways, and their findings, and at times, I found myself right there — on the new Terra, on the new Land. Douglas needed to teach and he found in me the perfect pupil. Nothing escaped. I looked forward to the evenings, to be with him — to listen to him. He taught me everything, but he failed to teach me what to do now that I was in possession of it.
